Los Angeles Unified School District High Performance Program

Zinner Consultants developed LAUSD’s ground breaking Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program, the first and largest high performance schools program in the nation, and supported its implementation for ten years. CHPS, a K-12 sustainable schools rating system, focuses first on student health and performance, followed by operating cost reduction through energy and water efficiency, and then environmental stewardship.

ZC’s tasks included working with the Board of Education and writing a District high performance schools proclamation; establishing and facilitating LAUSD’s community and industry focused CHPS Committee, developing and implementing the program’s strategy; reviewing project CHPS documentation; and tracking and reporting the program results.

ZC also assisted with institutionalizing the CHPS program through incorporation specifications into the District’s Design Guidelines, Guide Specifications, and design and construction review process.

As part of its LAUSD effort, ZC assisted CHPS with the development of the CHPS Best Practices Manual, project scorecard, verification program, implementation roadmap, high performance materials database and U.S. EPA’s Healthy SEAT program.
